Rakai Cafe on Rochdale Road East is a down-to-earth spot where Heywood locals drop by for more than just their caffeine fix. This is a classic neighbourhood cafe that blends solid coffee craft with a menu reflecting both everyday comfort and a touch of traditional South Asian flavour.

Inside, you'll find a warm, unpretentious atmosphere with friendly faces behind the counter—something the regulars definitely appreciate. It’s the kind of place that feels familiar without being loud or cluttered, perfect for a relaxed breakfast or a midday break. The off-road parking nearby adds a practical touch, especially welcomed on those damp northern days.

For coffee enthusiasts, Rakai Cafe offers reliably fresh drinks ranging from classic espressos to more inventive choices like their pistachio iced latte—a local favourite for balancing flavour without being overly sweet or watered down. The coffee here suits a range of palates, whether you're after a quick americano or a comforting mocha paired with a fresh brownie or muffin from the counter.

Lunchtime brings a shift to heartier fare with dishes like smash burgers, chicken tikka with chips, and homemade paratha with omelette. The menu clearly caters to those who appreciate simple, well-made meals that mix British cafe staples with a hint of South Asian home cooking. Those familiar with the cuisine will notice the care in dish preparation, especially with items like samosa chaat and channa, which avoid being overly heavy or greasy.

Visitors often stop by in the morning or early afternoon, making it a solid choice for breakfast—whether grabbing something quick or settling in with a hot chai and a savory breakfast plate. The avocado toast and freshly baked treats are consistently highlighted for their freshness and fitting portion sizes, reflecting a kitchen that values quality ingredients.

Overall, Rakai Cafe suits those looking for an unflashy, dependable local hangout where coffee and food come together in a straightforward, friendly setting. It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys a casual lunch or a break with a well-balanced flavoured coffee and prefers supporting spots that feel genuinely embedded in the community rhythm of Heywood.

Great Local Spot! Had breakfast at Rakai Cafe and it was absolutely lovely. The food was fresh, tasty, and nicely presented. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming — you can tell it's a well-loved local spot. I only tried the breakfast, but the rest of the menu looks great too. Definitely planning to come back and try more!

Tried this new establishment in Rochdale. I ordered from their range of traditional breakfast to their healthy options. Desi Breakfast The Pratha was spot on in looks and taste. a good homemade example that many establishments fail to nail. The accompanying items like omelette, Channa, chicken and potato curry were all delicious. Over all a well balanced and cooked meal. It’s so easy to get sick simple meals tasting average, this definitely leaves you satisfied. The Rakai Breakfast Lovely poached egg, cooked to perfection with salmon and sauce all sat on a brioche muffin. Delicious and coming back to order again. Drinks The juices look like they’re from a carton, I would prefer fresh juice. The pistachio iced cooler - this was lovely, right amount of coffee and not ground in milk or other flavours Staff and tables Very polite, sociable and attentive. Feels a bit crammed with the space but the Manager did confirm they are looking to extend. Definitely will be back to try other items and hoping to have some more quality mad fresh food.

The Pistachio Iced Latte from Rakai Cafe is the best Iced Latte I've had the pleasure of drinking. Period. The balance of Coffee and Pistachio is on point. Neither is overpowering, which is what I want in a flavoured Coffee drink. It wasn't overly sweet and unlike other Iced Coffees I've had in the past, there was just enough Ice in there to make it cold. Other Iced Coffees are 75% Ice, which is always disappointing. The Desi breakfast includes a traditional and genuinely homemade Paratha, a Masala Omellete, a Chicken and Potatoe side and a bowl of Chana (Chickpea Curry). The Paratha was very crispy and authentic. Unlike a lot of other places that serve the frozen variant. We also tried the Rakai Benedict. Again, another brilliant breakfast choice. The eggs were cooked perfectly, with a nice runny yolk. It was served with a side of Salad, which paired nicely with the eggs. That topped with the friendly service and the welcoming atmosphere makes Rakai Cafe an excellent breakfast/brunch spot. I'll definitely be back to try the other items on their menu.

Delicious and fresh! I had the avocado toast and it was absolutely spot on! Perfectly seasoned, fresh ingredients, and served with care—it looked and tasted amazing. Portion size was just right, and you can tell everything is made with quality in mind. Highly recommended if you’re after something tasty, fresh, and satisfying. Will definitely be ordering again!

Tried this lovely cafe as our usual place was unexpectedly closed. The coffee was excellent and the young lady who served us and gentleman who I think is the owner were both lovely. The food smelled & looked delicious but we were only in for drinks today. Definitely on my list of places to return. Parking off road in the carpark was convenient in the wet weather too.

Fully Halal. Excellent menu choices, large portion sizes, very reasonable prices. The food was *delicious*, came quickly and the staff were lovely. I will definitely visit again. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. We had the large full english breakfast, chicken tikka & chips and avocado egg and toast i highly reccommend them.

We went here for brunch. It was a lovely little spot. The decor was very cosy and pretty. I liked the menu variety, something for every taste bud. We had karak chai and a lovely pistachio latte. Prices were very reasonable. Plenty of parking on site and on side roads. Fully halal. Accept card but try and take cash to support local businesses. Space for prams. High chairs available. Great for a girlie catch up or date with the family. Fresh desserts available too. Great place, do give it a try. staff were just lovely and friendly x
